You can close your Camila account at any time from Settings → Account → Close my account. Closure is deactivation, not erasure — and that distinction matters, both for you and for us.
What happens immediately
The moment you confirm closure:
- Your profile is hidden from other users (search, recommendations, follows).
- Your room presence is removed from any rooms you were in.
- Saved payment methods are detokenised and removed from active billing.
- Auto-renewing subscriptions (fan clubs, etc.) are stopped.
- We sign out every active session.
- A confirmation goes to the email on file.
From the outside, your account is gone. From our internal systems, the account is moved into a closed state — the data isn't deleted yet (we'll get to why).
What we keep, and for how long
Camila operates in jurisdictions (US, EU, UK) that require us to retain certain records for years after an account closes. We do not delete data before the law allows us to — that's not a policy choice, it's a legal obligation. Concretely:
| What | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account record (username, email, signup date, audit trail) | 7 years | Tax & anti-money-laundering rules; subpoena response. |
| Transaction records (CX purchases, refunds, chargebacks) | 7 years | Same — financial record-keeping. |
| Model identity & 2257 records (if you were a model) | 7 years after departure | US 18 U.S.C. § 2257 mandates this. |
| Mod actions and abuse reports about you | 5 years | So patterns of abuse can't be erased by closing and re-opening accounts. |
| Anything under a legal hold (subpoena, law-enforcement preservation) | Until the hold is lifted | Required by law. |
| Personal content you posted (profile pic, bio, DMs) | Hidden immediately, deleted at the end of the retention window | Hidden from public; retained internally. |
Within Camila, this archived data sits in a restricted compliance vault — it isn't accessible to ordinary support staff, only to a small compliance team for the specific legal purposes above.
You can recover the account during the retention window
Because the account record is retained, you can recover it. Email support@camila.live from the address on file (or from a different one if you can verify identity another way), tell us you'd like to reopen, and we'll restore your profile, follows, balance, and history within 1–2 business days. We'll re-verify your identity if it's been a long time, especially for models.
Recovery is available as long as the account is still in our retention window. Once the window expires (typically 7 years after closure for a viewer; 7 years after departure for a model), the data is destroyed and the account is gone for good.
"Can you delete me right now?"
Under GDPR (EU/UK) and similar laws elsewhere, you have a right to erasure — but it's not absolute. We must keep records the law tells us to keep. What we can do under a GDPR erasure request:
- Delete profile content (photos, bio, DMs you sent)
- Delete behavioural data (browse history, follows, likes) immediately
- Anonymise your identity in any record we're not legally required to keep with your name attached
What we cannot delete on request: financial records (7 years) and 2257 records (7 years post-departure for models). After the legal window, all of it is destroyed.
To file an erasure request, email privacy@camila.live from the address on file with the subject "GDPR erasure request". We acknowledge within 72 hours and complete within 30 days.
Username
Your username is locked from re-use for 2 years after closure, so nobody else can claim it. After 2 years it goes back into the pool. If you reopen during the lock window you keep the same username; after, you'd need to pick a new one.
CX in your wallet
Unused CX in your wallet at the time of closure: choose either to spend it before closing, or request a cash refund of the unused balance back to the original payment method (5–10 business days). We can't refund CX that has already been spent on a tip, show, or content — once the model has been credited, the money is theirs.
